Good address by Bruce Edwards.
C.S.Lewis continues to appeal to so many people simply because his intellectual and spiritual legacy represents something that the modern world chooses to further distance itself from – the increasingly rare formula of intelligence, goodness and wisdom.
Any one (or even two) of these three qualities may be legitimately associated with many people even today. But in the world of politics, the media, law and academia there is definately a famine, a notable and total absence, historically unprecedented amongst national leaders and cultural trend setters, of people within whom that triple package is complete.
This inevitably causes disillusion, fear and despair.
C.S.Lewis is a collective and individual antidote to this. To so many he is their anchor for a society drifting away from sense and truth. And a very good one.
